Trick or treat!

She emptied the last of it into the huge bowl in the hallway and dusted her hands together, smiling.  She had slaved away for days, making all kinds of toffees, chocolate treats and candies and baking was not her thing. She’d enjoyed it, though – maybe it could be the start of something new, like this house, and hopefully, this new life.

Now she’d wait.

An eternity later, the doorbell rang sharply.  She opened the door to reveal the most rotten trick of all.  He’d found her again.
